Pray for today, for tomorrow is not guaranteed

In Deuteronomy 33:25, Moses' prayer for the tribe of Asher has an interesting phrase in it that sticks with me.

Your bars shall be iron and bronze,
and as your days, so shall your strength be.

"As your days, so shall your strength be." The tribe of Asher is a strong tribe - strong as iron and bronze - but only day by day.

We are told this ourselves by the Lord in what is foolishly called the "Lord's Prayer" - foolish, because He intended it for us, not Himself. (His prayer is best considered to be either His plea in Gethsemane to "take this cup away", or the monologue at the end of His profound message to His disciples at the Last Supper, when He turns to His Father in John 17.) Consider His suggested prayer for us, from Luke 11:3 -

Give us each day our daily bread...

For efficiency's sake, mightn't it have been easier to say something like, 'Each month, give us the bread we need for that month'?

Perhaps. But God wants us to come to Him EVERY DAY in prayer. We are stupid sheep, and we need to be reminded of the Creator every single day - Go to Him in prayer every single day. Go to His Word in the Bible every single day.

Being a Christian is an every single day thing, not a once-a-week-on-Sunday-morning thing!
