If it really WAS possible to get to Heaven on our own,...
...do you think God would have sent His only Son to live a sinless life on earth and be killed horrifically for just that purpose?
Things being difficult was never a deterrent for the Lord. Read the Bible. Pick almost any one of the heroes or heroines in there, especially the Old Testament. God never made their lives or their tasks easy.
“Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able." (Luke 13:24)
And He's talking about AFTER His sacrifice on the cross. So why would He have gone through all that if it were already possible to "earn" your way into paradise after you die?
No, the Answer is clear.
The ONLY way to Heaven after you die, the ONLY way to avoid Hell when life on earth is complete, is to BELIEVE IN THE LORDSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST. Not just admit He exists, but to follow His example in your own life.
